Out and About
- Domjean itself has a butcher, a baker and an excellent restaurant, a mini-golf course and a chocolate factory.
- The small country town of Torigni-sur-Vire is 10 minutes away, where there is a weekly market (Monday), good shops and eating places and both Champion and Lidl supermarkets
- St Lo, the main regional town, is about 15 minutes away, with a picturesque castle, river, the National Equestrian Centre (for horsey people the National Stud is at Cluny, - also well worth a visit), plus the usual shops, markets & restaurants
- Lovely beaches at Granville and Carteret to the west, with ferries to the Channel Islands as well.
- Normandy Beaches and Bayeux are about 30 minutes away. The Tapestry Museum is very interesting
- The valley of the Orne in the Suisse Normande, particularly the village of Clecy and the rocky cliffs above the river where there are plenty of walks
- The Roche D'Oetre viewpoint further south in the Orne valley (near Pont D'Ouilly) is reminiscent of Dartmoor's Teign Valley (Castle Drogo country)
- The Memorial Museum on the outskirts of Caen (off the Northern Periphique) is not tanks and guns, but a very fascinating and moving account of the lead up to WW2, its course and aftermath.
- The beatiful Abbaye de Hambye is 20k south east of Coutances - check for opening times as it is not always open out of season
- La Roche de Ham is 5 minutes drive from Le Hamel, great walks/cyling with added benefit of having a Creperie at the top - great views!!!
- The American War Cemetry about 1 hours drive away.
